Final Music Video.

This is the video for my final music video. I used editing in Final Cut Express to create the separate images on a single image and believe this worked really well. I was imagining there to be more footage and a storyline to this music video however due to Ashleigh falling ill, this could not happen and I had to work with what I had.

Magazine advert.

I decided to use piktochart.com for my magazine advert so that I can use the images I already have to make it. I used red roses to link in with the album art inside on the digipak and I also used the same image of my artist which is on the back cover of the digipak. I also included two quotes from audiences to attract people to buy the album.

This is a screenshot of me making the magazine advert on the website. It allows me to move the images around to my desired preference.

I believe this is quite simple with its white background. However I also believe this is quite effective and allows people to understand the nature of the album being advertised, which is quite calm and relaxing but upbeat and girly at the same time, shown in the red roses which contrast with the background.

This is my final product and believe it links in well with other media texts including both the digipak and the music video itself. I used piktochart.com to create this image.

Final digipak.

This is my final digipak. I have included natural images which occur in the music video. I have used images of the girl in the music video on the album cover, the back and inside. I believe my digipak is quite effective and the front cover is a bold red rose.

Digipak.

This is a template for a digipak which I found on google images.

This is an image which I made on photoshop through using three of the images from the actual music video during editing. I am going to use this in my digipak as the inside cover. I believe that these images are good to use because they create a poppy sensation and I have blended all three together to create this look. I also believe that the faded look of the two images on the left is effective and the close up is clear.

I made this back cover for my album digipak on photoshop aswell by cutting out an image of the girl onto a white background showing the plainness and pureness of the album. This suggests that it is more about the music. I have included the conventions of a digipak including the barcode, a record label logo, a copyright message and also up the top is her website which enables the audience to find out more information about the artist. I believe I have made this very well.

The clothes she is wearing in both of these images are the same as what she is wearing in the music video for 'Crazy Good' which is an example of linking two media texts. This may catch the audiences eye and draw their attention to it. This is the effect I desire.

This is the image I made on photoshop for the front cover however I believe that this should not be the front cover and should be inside with the image of my artist merged together. This is because the colours tie in due to being dark and I think it would make it more exciting to have this inside and it white, pure and light on the outside showing a contrast.

I have deleted the layer of text on this image so it is just a plain image of a rose and my artist looking like she is having fun.

This looks a lot better because the text made it look very tacky.

For the image behind the disk I just want a plain image of the background in the music video full of greenery and nature. I have blurred this image because I think it looks effective.

Rough Cut.

After editing the two scenes I originally filmed I decided to make a rough cut of my music video. This is my first draft, before much editing has been done. I want to do more editing including split screens and get some more footage of nature and different things to edit in to fill out my video more, as at the moment it is just my actress singing.

4. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

I made this image on wordle.net. This is a number of words which I gathered from audiences including from my survey results and voxpop as to what they like to see in a music video. It also includes what people on the internet have said about music videos and what they expect to see.

I found this website where someone was asking audiences what teenagers expect and like to see in a music video.
This was someones answer on the website.

VOX POPS!

Thea was in my group for this research task and we decided that she would be asking the questions we created to our audiences.

We had three people who we recorded their answers. They all said they watch music videos. One of our respondents said that he enjoys 'Eminem - Berserk' due to the high and low angle shots used for variety. Another of our respondents said that they enjoy music videos with a storyline relating to the artists life such as Johnny Cash's 'Hurt'. The last respondent said that he enjoys comical music videos.

One opinion was that music videos allow the imagination to run free and be creative. Another was the way in which it portrays the artist. WHAT MAKES A GREAT MUSIC VIDEO? responses included        something eye catching and relating to the song. They use their phones, the internet including websites like youtube, and television such as MTV to watch music videos.

I believe that my audience feedback was included in my research and gave me ideas about the music video I was going to create. I believe that I need some more audience feedback for my actual music video and I welcome criticism. I am going to ask a few people to watch my music video and create a video of their responses.

I have learned that audience feedback is essential during the research and preparation of the product you are going to make.

Do you like it? If the audience enjoy your product then you know it is going to be quite successful. However if you do not gather any information or opinions on the product you have made/are going to make, then this could cause it to be a complete failure. I believe that my audience feedback allowed me to create a music video which teenage girls would enjoy. However, the audience feedback which I got through my VOX POP did not include a girls point of view as the respondents were all boys. This is what I could have worked on and could have included a female point of view as my music video is mainly aimed at young teenage females. This could have helped to improve my ideas for my final product, however, I believe that due to the audience feedback being mainly male, I was able to think of some things which they may enjoy about a music video and include these. This would allow me to widen my target audience to all teenagers.

2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts (DVD digipak, magazine advert)?

This is an example of Rihanna's work for her album 'LOUD'. This is demonstrating an interlink between the texts of her magazine advert and her digipak. The front cover is exactly the same image on the magazine advert. The same font is used just with more text on the magazine advert to advertise dates and releases. This is very effective as people who have seen this image will think 'oh I have seen this image before!' and allows them to become interested in the album.

I believe that I have created a very effective promotional package for my artist as the magazine advert and digipak both include very pure and pale, simple backgrounds such as the white background and the green natural backgrounds. However, there is also the bold red rose colour included which helps to add depth into the image. Using the images taken from the actual music video also helps to further advertise this.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The Cultivation Theory.

This is a more refined version of the hypodermic needle model saying that repeated exposure causes audiences to become insensitive. Films such as The Exorcist (1973) were at one time banned but re-released and raised questions such as 'what was the fuss about?'

This suggests that heavy viewers attitudes are shaped by what they watch on TV.
If someone is watching my music video, this may urge a young girl to want to become a singer or to behave like the girl in my video. They may begin to sing in their bedroom into a hairbrush and may start to like pink due to the girls room in the video. Also, they may wish to have larger breasts due to the images of the girl in the video which are quite revealing when she is wearing a vest top. This can have a negative impact on a young girls life.

Paradigms.

There are two types of paradigms which are the key elements of a genre. These are iconographic and structural. The iconographic is the signs and symbols for example the props and costumes used. This can be applied to my music video and is shown through the costumes used. The girl is wearing a set of pyjamas with a vest top which accentuates her chest area which is quite typical of the portrayal of a girl in a music video. Also there is lip synching, dancing and music included. Also, she is wearing a flowery top and looks quite countrified which is typical of a girl in a country music video. The structural is the way is a text is put together and how structures in the text deal with issues such as gender. The vest top is quite revealing which, again, is quite typical of the portrayal of a girl. She is also dancing around with a hair brush which people believe young girls do which allows them to relate, especially as many young girls have dreams of becoming a singer. The bedroom is also very pink which is a girly colour.

The Effect Model.

The Effects Model explores the connection between an audience and the mass media which they consume; it suggests that there is an influence through media consumption on the behaviour of the public. This is usually thought of as negative and this theory suggests that the audience are powerless to prevent being influenced by the message of the text. This model is also called The Hypodermic Model which also suggests that the influences are injected into the audience. Key evidence includes the Bobo Doll Experiment; a controversial piece of research which shows how children who watched a movie of somebody being violent towards a toy called the 'Bobo Doll' then copied the behaviour, suggesting further explanation of the Effects Model.

If this research is true then it can be applied to my music video. The young girl dancing around and being all happy showing that she has a good life may influence young girls/teenagers to feel the need to become a pop singer. This is quite an influential video for young girls and may also make them feel as though they need to get a boyfriend to be happy and look good. The girl in the music video is also quite slim so this may be added pressure for young girls to become like this and look this way.

Editing,.

Through editing I have realised that I need some new filler shots. I am unable to arrange a specific time and date with the actress in the filming shots I have already got which means that I need to film new things such as nature or point of view shots. This will enable my video to be of more shots than just what I have already which I have realised is not enough.

This is a screenshot of Final Cut Express and the sequence I have at the moment.

Adele vs Lady Gaga

This image shows the contrast between Adele and Lady Gaga.
Adele is wearing very natural and pale make up while Lady Gaga is wearing bright red lipstick and heavy eye makeup. Adele is going for the natural look with her eyes looking down and a closed mouth with her hair down and wavy. In contrast Lady Gaga has her hair flying all over the place and her mouth is open. She also has long claw like nails on with an implant in her cheek.

This is another image showing the contrast between album covers. They both use their own same images with Adele natural and Lady Gaga being very bold and looking fierce. Adele has her eyes closed suggesting passion and Lady Gaga is looking straight at the audience which shows fierceness and daring.
This image shows their outfits and while Adele is wearing a plan black top Lady Gaga is wearing a bright red outfit which makes her stand out.
Again this image reinforces the differences between the two artists.

These two videos again highlight the difference between the artists. Adele's video is in black and white and is very simple of her just walking and lip synching at times. This is a video where nothing really happens and it is just about the song and the lyrics. Lady Gaga's video for 'Born this way' however is very colorful, much like her other videos, and includes her dressed up in strange costumes as an alien and dancing about in underwear, with the majority of her body showing, while Adele remains covered up like in all of her videos. Lady Gaga's videos are more about the image we see whereas Adele's music is about the music we hear.

Magazine Advertisements.

This is a magazine advert for Jessie J's album 'Who you are.' This is great advertisement for this album because the same imagery and font are used for the advertisement and the album cover. This gives the audience expectations of the album and allows them to decide whether they want to buy it. There is also the print underneath which encourages this purchase and highlighting one of the top selling songs on the album. This is a great way of advertising and ties in with the album design and features.

This is a magazine advert for Plan B's album 'The Defamation of Strictland Banks' and this is a great way to advertise his music. The image is of the artist himself which has the same theme as the album, highlighting what it is about and the kind of music included. The microphone is an old fashioned one which highlights that the music is based on soul. The writing is against a black background and is quite bold which allows it to stand out and be noticed by the public.

The good thing about this magazine advert for Beyonce's album 'I am..Sasha Fierce' is that there is no writing apart from her stage name 'Sasha Fierce.' The image is also in black and white apart from the gold on her outfit. Her hair is pulled back out of her face giving her a determined look. The image is the same as those on the album cover which interlinks the two.

Ideas.

I used onetruemedia.com to create a short video with images I got from google. This short video contains some of the ideas I originally had for shooting my music promo video. It includes still images taken from Taylor Swift's 'You belong with me' music video which really inspired the idea for mine with the singing through the hairbrush pretending it is a microphone and also the bedroom scene. It also contains an image showing a pair of jeans, something which many people who make country music wear and style them up or down.

Adele '21' Digipak..

A bit about the album..

This is an image of a magazine advertisement for this album. The image is very similar to those on the digipak for her album cover and this helps it to relate and highlights the feel of the music on the album. The same fontis used and layout, and it is also black and white again.

Digipak Analysis.

Taylor Swift Fearless

This is an image of a digipak for Taylor Swift's album 'Fearless' created by someone researching digipaks. I found this on Google and think it is a very good idea. This will inspire some of the ideas I have for my digipak. The light colours represent the lightness of the music Taylor Swift makes with the guitar, and showing her with a guitar and the actual CD print as if it is a guitar also represents this. Taylor Swift is a country pop singer and I believe that this made up digipak represents this. The light colours and clothing and images of her naturally show her purity.
These are three images of the actual Digipak used for Taylor Swift's album. Again it uses the pale colours but also includes the sun shining in the photograph on the back cover. The similar colour scheme is throughout the album and this is contrasted by her name written in a darker colour, to make it stand out. The images in this Digipak are of her looking away from the camera showing that she is attempting to look natural.

Costume and prop ideas.

I was thinking of having a costume like this which is very countrified with the jean shorts and a checkered shirt tied up. However because my filming is in a bedroom and then on a stage, plus the English weather is not warm enough to wear this type of clothing, I have decided not to use this kind of clothing.

This is an image of Taylor Swift in her pyjamas in her music video 'we are never getting back together' and this is where some of my inspiration for my music video came from. This kind of look can be achieved through the use of normal pyjamas. These can be bought from anywhere, places such as Primark or even Asda.

This is an image of Taylor Swift wearing an evening dress on the red carpet. For the scene on stage I am going to use a going out dress such as this one.

I am going to use a microphone for the end scene when she is on a stage and singing to an audience.

I am going to use a hairbrush for the bedroom scene where she is pretending to sing into a microphone in front of people. This allows young girls to relate tot he music video.

I am going to use a teddy bear in the bedroom scene where she is cuddling it.

What is a digipak?

Audience Research.

I used wordle.com to make an image of words describing the things an audience would like to see in a music promo video. I have gathered this information through my VOX POP and also my survey.

Wordle: audience

Mary Sarah.

Mary Sarah is the artist whose song I am using for my music video. These are some screenshots of her websites including some information about her and the songs she has covered or written.

This is her youtube account.
This is information about her on wikipedia.

This is Mary Sarah on sound cloud promoting her music.

These are two images of her album/single image covers.

TOP TEN OF 2012.

This is the top ten most watched videos of 2012.

10. Taylor Swift - We are never getting back together.

This video has 95 million views.

This video tells a story of the breaking up and making up of two young people. This is shown in an exciting way which includes dancing around with people dressed up as different things and in different outfits. This music video is also very easy for young people such as teenagers to relate to. I think that this very is a very upbeat and bright one.

9. Nicki Minaj - Starships.

This video has 98 million views.

This music video is very bright and, like most of Nicki Minaj's videos is full of dancing, little to nothing clothing and strange hair colours. The video is very disjunctured and has nothing to do with the lyrics, and this would be Goodwin's observation. I believe that it is a party jam and so would be very popular for young people.

8. Katy Perry - Wide Awake.

This video has 107 million views.

This music video, as previously discussed in my blog post about Katy Perry, represents Katy coming back and apologising to her fans for changing her image from a big sister to a sexual predator, which she blames on Russell Brand. In this music video she is very pure, wearing white, and uses a young innocent girl to represent herself. It is also very dark but it has the beat which attracts teenage girls. At the beginning she also uses the music video for 'California Girls' to maybe advertise this. This music video is illustration.

7. Katy Perry - Part of me.

This video has 118 million views.

This music video, when released, was spoken about a lot. This is illustration according to Goodwin's observations and tells the story of a woman who is strong after her boyfriend/fiance cheated on her and she found out. This is a feminist video and song about how women are strong and can be fine after being lied to by a man. This is also done through the use of the women in the army. I believe that this video has a message which Katy is trying to get across and has done it very well.

6. One Direction - Live while we're young.

This video has over 123 million views.

This music video is just five boys having fun which is also what the song is about so we could say that it is amplified. It does not have a storyline or much of a meaning however it is a very fun and upbeat video and this is probably why is has so many views!

5. Rihanna - Where have you been?

This video has 149 million views.

This music video consists mainly of dancing. I do not believe that this video is all that good however it has had this many views so people must be interested in Rihanna and her dance moves.

4. One direction - One thing.

This video has 183 million views.

This music video is very similar to their other music videos. It consists of the five boys just having fun in their music video. I believe that this makes it very realistic due to them being young and this helps young people to relate to them and have fun.

3. Justin Bieber - Boyfriend.

This music video highlights Justin Bieber's popularity in the music industry due to the beginning of the video where the two girls are watching one of his music videos on their phone. The scene then changes from very upclose shots of Bieber to the song restarting and set in a place where all these young girls and boys are dancing around in a car park while Bieber is with one girl sitting on a car. This is a very repetitive video and Goodwin would say that this is an amplified video. Bieber's intentions in th video are very clear because Justin Bieber's actions fit with the words and lyrics of the song he is singing. I believe that this is an effective video because it includes typical dancing and young people which will also attract other young people to watch his videos.

2. Carly Rae Jepson - Call Me Maybe.

This video was the runner up for the top ten of 2012. This is a very humerous video including a girl who fancies a man and tries to make him like her. She then gives him her number and we watch her flaunt around in front of him. She puts on a show in the garage and sings to him and at the end we find out he is gay. This video is successful, I believe, due to the guy being very appealling when he takes off his shirt and the way that Carly herself is wearing shorts withher bra showing and is cleaning the car quite provocatively. This is a very effective video and the song was found to be very annoying but at the same time catchy and a lot of people would hear it on the radio and listen to it. This encouraged people to watch the music video.

1. PSY - Gangnam Style.

This music video was the most watched in 2012. This is because the song was so popular and the video had a very humorous and jokey feel to it. It included a dance routine which many people of the general public and audience to this music video have learned and every time to song comes on people will imitate the dance moves used in the music video. This has enabled the song to become extremely popular therefore people have been talking about it, encouraging others to watch the music video. PSY wears a variety of different coloured costumes and dances around with a load of girls, which I believe attracts an audience. The use of cartoon imagery also attracts people who like cartoon.

Survey results.

I ad a few results for my survey questions on surveymonkey.com. Half the respondants said that the song itself was their favourite thing about music, 25% said the lyrics and the other 25% said the beat.
Each respondant said they watch music videos through youtube and that they like music videos with a storyline.

THE LAST OF THE FILMING.

I have put together the two scenes I currently have for my music video. I wanted to add a scene where she was performing on a stage. I was going to use the stage at Sixth Form. I am going to film that part this week and I am hoping to finish the filming next week so I can get on with editing the new footage I will have into my video. Also, I got some advice from one of the other members of my class, Thea, who watched my video and suggested that I get some different shots. Such as the girl with a boy, due to the song being about her wanting a guy to phone, her sitting on her own and just short clips of her walking or dancing or lip synching. I believe that this will be a good idea and will help with the switching between scenes because switching between just two scenes at the beginning looks a bit annoying. I will change this and take the advice of Thea and film some different shots.

CURRENT EDITING/FOOTAGE.

I have currently filmed two scenes that I am very happy with including the bedroom scene and the outdoor scene.

These are some screen grabs from Final Cut express where I am editing the video how I like it. I can use this to cut out and insert different images from footage I have got.

This is an image of the whole of my final cut express document. As you can see on the left I have many different cut out sections which I can use.

This is an image of Ashleigh outside dancing around.

This is an image of Ashleigh on the phone from the footage captured in the bedroom scene.

I believe she was dressed well. Her hair was wavy in both scenes and looks very American and girly. She is wearing pyjamas in the bedroom scene which makes it more realistic.
